Shanghai Shenhua FC have announced that Wu Jingui has broken the Premier League record for the highest number of goals scored in one season by a player with no previous league experience.
Wu, who was signed by Shanghai Shenhua from Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande in 2019, had previously failed to break the record when he joined Manchester United in 2018.
In his debut season with Shanghai Shenhua, Wu set a new record for the most goals scored by a player without any previous Premier League experience, scoring 24 goals in just 46 appearances across all competitions.
The move comes as little surprise given Wu's impressive performances during his time at Guangzhou Evergrande, where he helped the club reach the AFC Champions League final and win the Asian Cup.
