Borussia Dortmund secured their place in the UEFA Champions League next season after securing a 2-0 victory against Hertha BSC at home on Sunday. The result was enough to see them finish third in the Bundesliga table, meaning they will be playing in Europe's premier club competition for the first time since 2016.
The match saw Borussia Dortmund dominate possession throughout the game, with their attacking players creating numerous chances to score. However, it wasn't until the 75th minute that the German giants finally broke through. A cross from the left by defender Raphael Guerreiro found the head of forward Robert Lewandowski, who nodded the ball into the back of the net.
Just five minutes later, Borussia Dortmund doubled their lead with a goal from forward Julian Brandt. Another cross from the right by Guerreiro found Brandt unmarked in the box, who slotted the ball past Hertha goalkeeper Simon Rost to complete his hat-trick.
Both teams were content with their performances, with both managers likely hoping that their team could finish the season on a high note. However, Borussia Dortmund have now secured their spot in the Champions League, while Hertha BSC can only hope that they can bounce back and compete for European football in future seasons.
